For the third straight weekend the UNLV women's basketball team is playing in a tournament, this time at the Contra Costa Times Classic, hosted by California in Berkeley. The Lady Rebels (3-1) open the tournament by taking on Albany (2-3) on Saturday at 1 pm, and will meet either Columbia or the host Cal Bears on Sunday, at either 1 or 3 pm. Both games will be broadcast tape-delayed by KSHP 1400 AM at 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

UNLV opened the season in the DePaul Invitational and defeated Alabama State before falling to No. 18 DePaul in the title game. The following weekend saw UNLV win its own Lady Rebel Shootout, with wins over Stephen F. Austin and then Tennessee Tech in the championship game.

This weekend is also the third time UNLV has played in Cal's tournament. The first appearance came in the 1985 Golden Bear Classic, when UNLV defeated Texas A&M 58-51 and the host Cal Bears 74-70 in the championship game behind the play of tournament MVP and UNLV All-American Misty Thomas. The next appearance was in the 2001 Oakland Tribune Classic, in which UNLV fell to Georgia 77-62 in the first round before handing Central Connecticut State an 83-28 thrashing in the consolation game.

The Lady Rebels will look to continue their high scoring ways this weekend, as they rank fourth in the Mountain West Conference with a 72.5 ppg average. They are also one of the top rebounding teams in the league and have an impressive 10.0 rebound margin after the first four games of the season.

UNLV head coach Regina Miller could also reach a personal milestone this weekend, as she enters the tournament just two wins away from career victory #200 (198-177 over 14 years).
