Teams Announced For Rebel Challenge

Dec. 1, 2005

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball announced the results of its draft for the Rebel Challenge, a series of weight lifting and conditioning events over a period of five days that will end the 2005 fall activities for the team.

The teams are made up of five Rebel baseball players.

Team BALCO, captained by senior right-handed pitcher Eric Brock, took Koji Pupo with the first pick of the draft. UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith said that Pupo was the sleeper pick to win the individual part of the challenge. Mr. Irrelevant, the last pick in the draft, was awarded to Alex Chalfant. The lottery envelopes were carefully handled by UNLV assistant coaches Nate Yeskie and Matt Fonteno with assistance from Liam Carroll. There were no trades after the draft.

The challenge starts on Dec. 5, and there will be a team winner, an event winner and an overall winner for the competition, which concludes on Dec. 9. Each day the challenge starts at 3:00 p.m. (PST).
