LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior Joe Bartoch's second-place finish in the 100 meter butterfly highlighted the Rebels' action as several Rebel men and women competed in the US Open on Dec. 1-3 in Auburn, Ala. The Rebel men finished fourth in the university competition.
Bartoch, the 2004 champion in the 100 fly, was runner-up this year with a time of 53.87. He also added a 17th-place swim in the 50 free with a time of 23.94. The Rebels' next highest scorer at the meet was Jonas Anderson. The freshman posted a fourth-place time of 2:19.99 in the 200m breast, and added an 11th place swim in the 100m breast in 1:05.90. Andersson's classmate, Johan Claar, finished 11th in the 1500m free in 15:56.00.
Other notable swims included Adam Martinson in the 100m back (17th - 59.22), Tamas Bosynak in the 400m IM (19th - 4:39.30), and Curtis Robinson in the 100m breast (21st - 1:08.14). The 400m relay team of Martinson, Andersson, Bartoch and Claar claimed fourth place, while John Byers, Claar, Kyle Tannehill, and Matt Morton was eighth in the 800m free relay.
Next up for UNLV will be the UNLV Winter Invitational, held Saturday-Monday, Dec. 17-19 at Buchanan Natatoriun.
