Wagner's Power Painters Lead Rebel Challenge

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball sophomore Willie Bowman is the top individual after two days of the Rebel Challenge, a series of weight lifting and conditioning events over a period of five days that will lead into the end of the 2005 fall semester. The overall team leader is Wagner's Power Painters.

Bowman has rung up 147 points and carries a slim half-point lead over Braden Walker, who has 146.5 points entering Wednesday's day of competition. Jabe Beard is third with 143 points, followed by Efren Navarro Jr. and Ryan Tabor, who both have 121 point

The bench was a maximum rep of 150 pounds and the Shockers total team reps were 101 while Zach Borba completed 33. The squat was a maximum rep of 225 pounds and Wagner's Power Painters performed 136 reps while Matt Luca completed 50 reps for the individual championship. The Gatorade Towel hang required body suspension from a towel draped over a high bar. Blake Gailen won the individual competition with a time of 112.25 seconds and the Power Painter's secured their second team title with a time of 414.19 seconds. The wrist rolling competition involved rolling a 45-pound weight up approximately seven feet by simply rolling the suspended rope over a modified weight bar. Navarro Jr. won with a time of 6.61 seconds, edging Wagner Power Painter teammate Kyle Kretchmer by seven thousandths of a second. Wagner's Power Painters secured their third consecutive title with a total time of 39.69 seconds.

The farmers walk consisted of carrying a 45-pound plate in each hand with just your finger tips and walking the length of a football field. The accomplishments were measured in yards and the first place finish went to Luca's Riddlers with 565 Total Yards. Walker won the individual mark with 175 yards.

The 100-yard relay required each player to complete four 100-yard tasks consecutively. 1- Pull a 100-pound sled-100 yards 2- Carry a five gallon water tank 100 yards 3- Push a 45-pound plate 100 yards while plate remains on ground with your hands 4- Run, walk jog, or crawl 100 yards.

The team winner was once again Wagner's Power Painters with a total team time of 14 minutes. The individual winner was Walker, who edged out Power Painter captain Matt Wagner by one second with a time of 2:30. Video review confirmed times and the finishes were upheld.

The truck push consisted of all five team member pushing a Ford F150 and its contents 60 yards across a soft grass terrain. Luca's Riddlers won this event with a team time of 26.29 Seconds. The Riddlers were the last team to participate in the truck push by the luck of the draw, allowing them to longer to recover following the 100-yard relay.

Wednesday's events begin at 3:00 p.m. (PST) and will include a two mile race, followed by a tug of war and concluding with an obstacle course event.
