Final Stats

AUSTIN, Texas - UNLV baseball lost 12-3 to No. 1 Texas as the Longhorns completed a three-game sweep of the Rebels on Sunday afternoon at Disch-Falk Stadium. The Rebels had lost the first two games of the series by one run and in Saturday's game UNLV carried a three-run lead into the bottom of the ninth before losing 7-6.

UNLV dropped to 1-5 with the loss and its 12-3 loss was the Rebels' first defeat by more than one run this season. The top-ranked Longhorns remained perfect on the season at 7-0. Eric Brock took the loss for the Rebels, giving up six runs in 2.2 innings of work to even his record at 1-1. Kyle McCulloch won his first game of the year for UT, throwing seven innings and giving up three runs.

Texas scored a run in the first inning as Drew Stubbs drew a walk to lead of the game, stole second and third and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Seth Johnston.

UNLV knotted the game in the third at one when Willie Bowman led off the inning with a double, moved over to third on a groundout and then was driven in by Ryan Kowalski.

Texas then blew open the game in the bottom half of the third, scoring five runs, with all of them coming with two outs in the inning. Clay Van Hook led off the bottom of the third with a single, and then advanced to third on two sacrifice bunts. Three singles, a walk and a double steal of second and home then followed, as UT put up five runs to grab a 6-1 lead.

UNLV cut into the lead in the fourth when Efren Navarro Jr., Ryan Bird, Bowman and Albert Zerega hit consecutive singles with two outs to plate two runs, making score 6-3.

Three runs would be as close as the Rebels could get as UT scored a run in both the fourth and the fifth, and added two more runs each in the sixth and seventh, pushing the score to 12-3.

UNLV remains on the road this weekend, traveling to in-state rival Nevada, Reno for a three series with the first game set for Friday, Feb. 18 at 2:00 p.m. (PST).
