The UNLV women's basketball team received a postseason bid for the fifth straight season on Sunday, as the Lady Rebels will take on Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday in the first round of the 2005 Postseason Sportsview.tv WNIT. The game time is set for 7 pm CST.
UNLV, who finished fifth in the Mountain West with a 16-14 overall record and a 6-8 conference mark, will play in the WNIT for the fourth time in the last five years, and seventh in school history. The Lady Rebels turned in their best WNIT finish last season, winning four games to reach the championship game before falling at Creighton in the finals.
Arkansas returns to the postseason after missing it in 2003-04. The Lady Razorbacks own a 16-13 record, but finished 3-11 in the SEC while losing five of their last six games, including a 79-60 setback to No. 17 Vanderbilt on March 4 in the SEC tournament.
The winner of Friday's game will take on the winner of the Mississippi State-Arkansas State matchup in the second round at a time and location to be determined after both games are completed.
The WNIT features 32 teams in a single-elimination format, with all games hosted by participating schools at on-campus sites.
