Rebels Win Southern Highlands Collegiate By 15 Strokes

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team shot a tournament-low round of 8-under-par 280 during the final day of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship on Sunday at Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards) to run away with the team title, its first of the season.

UNLV (294-281-280--855, -9) won by 15 strokes over second-place finisher Georgia (296-281-293--870, +6). Florida (296-290-286--872, +8) finished third, Oklahoma State (292-284-298--874, +10) was fourth and Arizona State (288-288-300--876, +12) rounded out the top five.

The tournament featured one of the top fields that UNLV will play amongst all season with the top six ranked teams in attendance and 11 of the top 15. Additionally, eight of the top 10 individually ranked golfers in the nation played in the event.

It was UNLV's first team title since the 2002 Turtle Bay Intercollegiate.

UCLA's Daniel Im (66-75-68--209, -7) defeated South Carolina's Mark Anderson (66-72-71--209, -7) in a sudden-death playoff to take the individual crown. The pair tied for first after 54 holes at 7 under, two shots ahead of UNLV's Ryan Moore (73-67-71--211, -5), who finished third after shooting a final round of 1-under 71.

UNLV's Travis Whisman (75-73-64--212, -4) shot 8-under 64 during Sunday's final round, which was the tournament low, and moved up 31 spots during day to finish in fourth place.

The third UNLV player to finish in the top 10 was Sam Hunt (72-71-73--216, E), who finished tied for 10th with three other golfers.

Gatto* (72-74-74--220, +4; T20th), Ryan Keeney (78-70-72--220, +4; T20th), Matt Kinsinger (74-74-74--222, +6; T25th), Andres Gonzales* (70-76-78--224, +8; T35th), Casey Fowles* (76-77-78--231, +15; T60th), Jarred Texter* (75-80-79--234, +18; 67th), Troy Denton* (84-81-80--245, +29; 78th) and J.C. Deacon* (85-76-89--250, +34; 80th).

UNLV will be back in action next weekend, March 18-20, at the Hall of Fame Invitational in Houston, Texas.
