UNLV is playing in the postseason for the fifth straight year as the Lady Rebels (16-14) take on Arkansas (16-13) in the first round of the 2005 Postseason Sportsview.TV WNIT on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark., at 7 pm (CST). The Lady Rebels are in the WNIT for the third straight year, and advanced to the championship game last year before falling at Creighton.
The Lady Rebels will be looking for their third straight win over a SEC opponent, having defeated South Carolina earlier this year 66-63 in the WBCA/BTI Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 15. UNLV also posted a 62-51 win in Las Vegas over Mississippi State on Dec. 28, 2003. The Lady Rebels are 9-7 all-time against the SEC.
UNLV is 3-1 in WNIT First Round action, including last year's 50-47 win over Arizona State in Las Vegas. The Lady Rebels have struggled on the road this season, owning a 2-7 record while finishing 12-5 at home (2-2 netural).
The top scoring team in the conference, UNLV's offense has been a key part in its rebound from a 2-5 start in MWC play. After scoring over 70 points just once in the first half of conference play, the Lady Rebels scored 70 or more in four straight games and are on pace to lead the league for the second straight year with a 67.6 ppg average. They have also been dominating the boards, with an 8.8 rebound margin over the last nine games.
