IN THE BATTER'S BOX: UNLV travels to Albuquerque, N.M., to play its first Mountain West Conference road games of 2005 against New Mexico. The three-game series opens up on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. (PST) and the two teams play again Friday at 5:00 p.m. and again Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The series' game times and dates have been changed from the Rebels' original schedule due to the NCAA Men's Basketball Regional being played in Albuquerque.

LAST TIME OUT: UNLV rallied from a four-run deficit to tie the game at six but could not complete the comeback, losing 7-6 to Loyola Marymount in a non-conference game on a windy and rainy Tuesday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. After the Lions scored the go ahead run in the top of ninth, UNLV had the tying run on base in its half of the ninth when Justin Tellam hit a one-out single. LMU reliever Blake Feaser kept the Rebels off the board, getting two ground outs to end the game. Kyle Tabeek took the loss for the Rebels. Gabe Bueno earned the win and Feaser picked up his second save for LMU.

UNLV REBELS (9-16, 3-0 MWC): UNLV had its three game winning streak snapped Tuesday by LMU, but the Rebels look to remain perfect in the MWC as they travel to play the Lobos. Sophomore first baseman Chris Bonnell leads the Rebels with a .333 batting average (23-69) with three home runs and 15 RBI. Justin Tellam has slugged a team-high six home runs. CJ Lang leads the Rebels with 21 runs scored from the lead off position and Matt Fry paces the team in RBI with 16. On the mound junior right hander Matt Luca has won his last two starts and is now 2-4 with a 3.29 ERA.

NEW MEXICO: (11-12, 1-2 MWC): The Lobos played a midweek game Tuesday against New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M., and lost 8-5. UNM opened MWC play at home last weekend against BYU and won the first game of that series 6-5. The Lobos dropped the last two games of that series 19-6 and 4-3. UNM has lost three straight heading into its series against UNLV. Chris Carlson leads the Lobos offensively with 17 extra-base hits (11 2b, 3 3b and 4 HR) with a team-high 31 RBI. Jordan Pacheco is hitting at a .443 clip (39-88) as the Lobos have nine players hitting .300 or better and are batting .327 as a team. On the mound Jason Fernandez is 4-2 in seven starts with 32 strikeouts and a 6.85 ERA. Javier Lopez has two saves for the Lobos out of the bullpen and Darren Coltrinari is 3-2 in six starts with a 7.68 ERA.

UNLV AGAINST NEW MEXICO: UNLV leads the all-time series against New Mexico 59-38 (.608). The Lobos took the season series from the Rebels last season 3-4, but UNLV beat UNM in the MWC Tournament 15-9 as the Rebels won the title.

ON DECK: UNLV returns home for a midweek game against UC Irvine on Tuesday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. (PST) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Following that non-league game the Rebels host San Diego State for a three-game set to continue MWC play with the first game of that series set for April 1 at 6:30 p.m.
