TUCSON, Ariz. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 1-under-par 287 on Monday at the National Invitational Tournament being played at OMNI Tucson National (par 72, 7,094 yards) and slipped to sixth place, trailing team-leader TCU by five shots entering Tuesday's final round.
TCU (276-283-559, -17) shot a second-round 5-under but retained the top spot and leads Arkansas (282-278-560, -16) by one shot. Texas (286-276-562, -14) and Arizona (281-281-562, -14) are tied for third, Arizona's "B" team is fifth (280-283-563, -13) and UNLV (277-287-564, -12) is sixth.
UNLV's Ryan Keeney (67-69-136, -8) shot a second-round 3-under 69 and remains tied for second at 8-under, one shot back of individual leader J.J. Killeen of TCU (66-69-135, -9), who also shot 69 on Monday.
Rebel teammate Travis Whisman (67-74-141, -3), who was tied for second after Sunday's opening round, fell into a tie for 15th after shooting a second-round 2-over 74. UNLV's Andres Gonzales (70-71-141, -3) is also tied for 15th.
Other Rebel players were Matt Kinsinger (74-73-147, +3; T53rd) and Sam Hunt (73-76-149, +5; T64th).
Play concludes Tuesday with 18 holes.
