Final Stats

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV dropped its third straight game as five errors hurt the Rebels in their 6-4 loss to Florida Atlantic in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Unearned runs spoiled the Rebels' chances of splitting the double-dip, as four of the Owls' six runs were unearned dropping UNLV to 3-12 in 2005. FAU improved to 8-4 with the sweep of Saturday's games. Wayne Foltin took the loss for UNLV in relief, his first decision of the season. Brandon Kloess picked up his first win of the season and Mickey Storey got the final four outs of the game to earn his second save in 2005.

After being shutout in the first game, UNLV scored a run in the first and second inning to grab an early 2-1 lead. Justin Tellam singled in the first to drive in JC Sibley and then Braden Walker hit an RBI single in the bottom of the second to drive in Willie Bowman.

That lead would last two innings before FAU knotted the game at two in the top of fifth, capitalizing on two UNLV errors in the frame.

Owl centerfielder Mike McBryde reached on a throwing error by UNLV catcher Albert Zerega that allowed McBryde to go to second. McBryde then moved to third on a throwing error by Rebel pitcher Koji Pupo, who threw a pick-off attempt into center field. McBryde scored on an Alex Fonseca single that tied the game at two.

FAU pushed another run across the plate in the sixth and then added three in the seventh to extend its lead to 6-2. The seventh started with an error by the Rebels, and FAU once again took advantage of a Rebel miscue. Two of the three runs plated in the inning were unearned, as the Owls scored on a passed ball and two RBI singles.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh Sibley was hit by a pitch and then Tellam cut the lead in half, drilling two-run home run off the left field scoreboard making the score 6-4. The two-run jack was Tellam's third of the season.

Rebel relievers Chris Huseman and Eric Brock kept the Owls off the board in the eighth and ninth innings, giving the Rebels a chance in the bottom of the ninth.

UNLV threatened to make a last-inning rally, as the Rebels had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Storey got Zerega to ground out to shortstop, ending the game.

Tellam finished the night with three RBI, going 2-4 at the plate with the home run.

UNLV and Florida Atlantic play the final game of their three-game set Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (PST) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
