Bonnell's Bat Brings Him Weekly Award

April 18, 2005

LAS VEGAS - Chris Bonnell's bat helped the Rebels take two of three games from Utah and on Monday the Mountain West Conference named him the league's Player of the Week for his strong performance at the plate.

Bonnell drilled three home runs, including two in UNLV's 18-15 win this past Saturday against the Utes on his way to hitting .462 (6-13) in the series. Bonnell hit his first round tripper UNLV's first game against Utah, slugging a three-run shot in the Utes' 9-5 win. Bonnell was just warming up as he went 3-6 in game two with a pair of home runs and three RBI. He hit a solo shot in the top of the second and then added a two-run home run in the top of the fourth. In the final game of the series Bonnell was 2-3 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. He recorded 16 total bases and had a slugging percentage of 1.231 in the three-game series.

This is the second time this year and second in his career at UNLV that Bonnell has won the award as he earned the honor for the week of March 1.
