Parraz' Career Weekend Lands Him Weekly Honor

April 25, 2005

LAS VEGAS - Zeke Parraz was named the Mountain West Conference Play of the Week after his career weekend at the plate against New Mexico in which he went 10-15 in three games with two home runs and 13 RBI.

It is the first weekly honor in his UNLV career for Parraz, who is originally from Las Vegas, Nev., and prepped at Green Valley High School.

Parraz opened the series against UNM by going 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. He followed that with a 4-6 effort at the plate Saturday afternoon in a game that saw the senior shortstop drive in a career-high eight runs in the Rebels' 20-11 win. Half of his RBI came on one swing of the bat as Parraz drilled a grand slam in the sixth inning. Parraz also had a solo home run and a triple in the rout. He wrapped up his weekend by going 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. On the week Parraz hit .667, had a slugging percentage of 1.267 and an on-base percentage of .722 to lead the Rebels to a sweep of the Lobos.

Behind the effort of Parraz the Rebels were also able to move into a first-place tie with BYU in the league standings as each team is 14-4 in conference action.

Bruce Billings of San Diego State earned MWC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 2-0 last weekend for the Aztecs with wins over UCLA and Air Force.

The Rebels remain at home for a Tuesday night game against UC Riverside scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
