OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The UNLV men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place after dropping four spots on the final day of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at Caves Valley Golf Club (par 70, 7,131 yards) Saturday.

Even after shooting a six-over-par 286 in the fourth and final round, the Rebels (284-290-302-286--1,162, +42) captured their ninth top-10 NCAA finish and best standing since ending sixth in 2000.

Defending individual NCAA champion Ryan Moore (72-73-71-66--282, +2) made the most of his final round as a Rebel by firing a four-under 66 to move up 12 spots and finish tied for fifth overall with Stanford's Rob Grube. Sitting in 48th place after two rounds, Moore rallied over the event's final 36 holes and his total of 282 goes down as the seventh-best NCAA score in school history.

Georgia (274-284-297-280--1,135, +15) went wire-to-wire to win the team title. The Bulldogs shot even par on the final day to easily hold off second-place Georgia Tech (288-281-295-282--1,146, +26) by 11 strokes. Washington (1,153), BYU (1,154), New Mexico (1,158), Southern California (1,159) and Kentucky (1,161) rounded out the teams finishing ahead of UNLV and Duke in eighth.

Individually, Washington's James Lepp (70-67-76-63--276, -4) turned in a scintillating final round of seven-under-par 63 to jump seven spots and tie Pepperdine's Michael Putnam (67-67-73-69--276, -4) for first place after 72 holes. Lepp would later defeat Putnam in a third playoff hole to capture national medalist honors. Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro (69-68-71-71--279, -1) finished third, Augusta State's Major Manning (65-70-73-73--281, +1) was fourth and Stanford's Rob Grube (71-71-72-68--282, +2) tied Moore for fifth.

UNLV's Ryan Keeney (69-75-73-73--290, +10) shot three-over for the second straight day and finished 10-over in the tournament to finish in a tie for 27th place. Andres Gonzales (70-73-77-73--293, +13) was the only other Rebel to finish in the top 50, as he moved up one spot on the final day to tie for 42nd. Jarred Texter (74-70-81-75--300, +20; T61st) and Travis Whisman (73-74-81-74--302, +22; T67th) rounded out UNLV's contingent.
