LAS VEGAS - The 2005 Rebel volleyball team defeated a squad comprised of former Rebels in the Annual Alumni Game. The '05 squad swept past the alumni three games to none.
The '05 squad was led offensively by Brittani Lumsden and Mariana Pencheva. Lumsden recorded 11 kills and five errors in 24 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .250. Pencheva had nine kills and three errors in 20 attempts. Pencheva's hitting percentage was .300.
Defensively, Jada Walker picked up the most digs (28), while Lumsden was second with eight.
The alumni squad featured three Rebels that closed out their playing careers in 2004: Nicki King, Tarin Keith and Nina Franchini. King left UNLV with her name listed in five categories of the Rebel career record book. She is tops in assists with 4,261.
The 2005 edition opens up its schedule this upcoming weekend on the road at the Fremont Investment & Loan Invitational in Northridge, Calif. The Rebels will take on the AVCA's preseason #23 team, Saint Mary's (Calif.) at 5 pm on Friday. On Saturday, UNLV will play a doubleheader with its first match at 10:30 am versus Cal State Northridge and then the 5 pm contest against Arizona State. The Invitational will be held at The Matadome on CSUN's campus.
