Sept. 12, 2005

LAS VEGAS - Sophomore place-kicker Sergio Aguayo is UNLV's first Mountain West Conference Player of the Week in 2005 and the first special teams honoree for the Rebels in two seasons, the league announced Monday.

Aguayo, a native of San Jacinto, Calif., kicked a career-long tying 41-yard field goal as time expired to give UNLV a thrilling 34-31 victory over Idaho on Saturday. It was the program's first game-winning field goal since 1992. Aguayo scored 10 total points (4-4 on extra points and another 26-yard field goal) vs. the Vandals and has now made 12 of his last 13 field goal attempts dating back to last season.

The last Rebel to earn MWC Special Teams Player of the Week was kicker Dillon Pieffer on Nov. 3, 2003.

New Mexico WR Hank Baskett and Air Force FB Jacobe Kendrick shared MWC offensive honors while UNM DE Evroy Thompson was the defensive player of the week.
