Rebels Open Conference Play At Home

UNLV returns home this weekend following its 1-2 showing in its final regular season tournament this past weekend in San Diego. The Rebels closed out the USD Invitational with a 1-2 record. The lone victory came in a five-game match versus American University and hopefully be a building block for the upcoming Mountain West Conference matches at the Cox Pavilion. Up first for the Rebels will be Thursday's match versus Wyoming followed by Colorado State on Saturday.

Last Week In Review

The Rebels went 1-2 at the University of San Diego Invitational last weekend at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. UNLV dropped its first two matches to then-#18 San Diego and Arkansas in three games before winning its final match against American in five.

UNLV had its worst outing of the season against the nationally-ranked Toreros. It was a match full of season-lows, such as: no player registered double-digit kill figures; the team registered only 30 kills and the team had its lowest total of attacking attempts. In the match USD out hit UNLV54-to-30 and held a .385-to-.154 advantage in hitting percentage. Lauren Miramontes led all Rebels with eight kills. Melody Nua had 17 assists to 19 digs from Jada Walker.

Against Arkansas the team rebounded and hit the ball for 46 kills and a hitting percentage of .184, but was unable to win a game versus the Lady'Backs in the 3-0 contest. UNLV had better numbers than Arkansas in every category, but UA prevailed in the column that counts. For the second-straight match, Miramontes led the team in kills with 15, while Maria Aladjova and Mariana Pencheva notched 10 apiece. Nua had 39 assists, while Walker had 15 digs.

In the finale of the Invitational, the Rebels swapped games with American en route to the team's first five-game match win of the season. UNLV took games one, three and five. The Rebel attackers were hitting above .100 in all five games with two games over .300. On the day, UNLV was out hit .254-to-.236 and in the kill department 75-to-73 by AU, but the win went the way of the Rebels. Brittani Lumsden tallied her fourth double-double of the season with help from 15 kills and 17 digs. Aladjova led all Rebels with 20 kills. Miramontes followed closely with 17. Pencheva rounded out the double-digit kill players with 17 of her own. Nua had 64 of UNLV's 67 assisted kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Lumsden's 17 digs were tops, as three others hit double-digits.

USD Invitational All-Tournament

For the second time this season Lauren Miramontes was selected to an all-tournament team. Miramontes notched 40 kills in three contests for a 3.64 kpg average and a .250 hitting percentage. On the defensive side of the net, she had 10 digs and 10 blocks.
