LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host a pair of swim meets this weekend, as the Rebels meet UC Irvine on Friday afternoon at 4 pm at Buchanan Natatorium, while Air Force comes in for a conference contest on Saturday at 3 pm.
The Rebels are coming off a sweep of Wyoming in their last dual meet action. The UNLV men (4-1, 3-1) are led this season by senior Joe Bartoch and freshman Johann Claar, who has won 18 consecutive collegiate races. On the women's side, the Rebels (3-3, 3-2) are paced by a pair of freshmen, Bailey Kuestermeyer and Amanda Weinbrecht.
Both UNLV and UC Irvine saw each other earlier this month, at the UC Irvine Sprint Invitational. The UNLV men won the event, with UC Irvine second, while UCI also placed second in the women's meet, with the Rebel women placing third.
Air Force has been very successful this season, with the men posting a 6-1-1 mark while the Falcon women at 7-4. One of the stars for AF is distance swimmer Chris Knaute, and this will be the first time this season that Claar and Knaute will compete against each other. Tiffany Biddle is also a strong distance swimmer for the women's squad.
