Alumni Game To Start Season

Jan. 21, 2006

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball will once again square off with former teammates and past Rebels in the Annual Alumni Game, to be held Jan. 28 at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

The game is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m. (PT) but the day will be full of activities that fans are encouraged to come and watch. Matt Wagner, last year's Mountain West Conference Tournament MVP, is schedule to take the mound for the current Rebel squad.

At 11:30 a.m. there will be a Home Run Derby among the alumni and it will be between players from each decade. Each contestant will get six swings to send as many balls as possible over the fence and a champion will be announced for each decade. From there each squad will take batting practice and infield and at 1:25 the alumni will be introduced to the crowd.

UNLV has won three-straight games against the Alumni Squad, including last year's 10-2 victory.

For the current Rebels it will be their last tune up before the three-time defending MWC Tournament champions began the 2006 season on the road at Pepperdine on Feb. 3. UNLV opens its season with nine-consecutive games on the road before its home opener on Feb. 24 against Eastern Michigan.
