Fall Ball For Rebels

Oct. 23, 2006

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball has started its fall schedule and workouts will continue at Earl E. Wilson Stadium through the end of October as the Rebels begin preparing for the 2007 season.

The team will practice on Tuesday through Sunday, with the final workout taking place on Oct. 31, and the team will also hold six intra-squad scrimmages (Oct. 24, 25, 27, 28, 29 and 31). Weekday practices begin at 1:30 p.m. (PDT) with scrimmages set to start at about 3:00 p.m. On the weekends practices begin at 10:00 a.m. with scrimmages getting underway at about 11:15 a.m. All scrimmages and practices are open to the public.

Head coach Buddy Gouldsmith enters his fourth season with the Rebels and returns 22 players from last year's roster, including All-MWC performer Keith Smith. The fall camp will also give Gouldsmith and his staff an opportunity to help break in 17 newcomers to the Rebels.

"After six fall practices the most encouraging part of our team is the offense. I think we will be able to score runs both because of our execution and our offensive prowess," Gouldsmith said. "Overall I am looking forward to the upcoming season."

UNLV opens its 2007 season with a three-game series on the road against Cal State Northridge beginning Jan. 26, in Northridge, Calif. The Rebels' first home game is Feb. 2 against Pepperdine.
