UNLV vs. Air ForcePost-Game Quotes11-24-2006
UNLV HEAD COACH Mike Sanford:
Overall on the game:
The thing that is good about this game is that we did the things you need to do to win. Tonight we did the things that you need to do to win and I think that is a good thing for the foundation for the future of this program because I believe that we are going to get this thing turned around. I believe that this is a great foundation for the future going into next year.
We did this for each other, but we did it especially for the seniors. We wanted to send those seniors out on a positive note.
We have been trying to get over the top of the mountain and I think we have been fighting and competing but we haven't gotten over the top. Tonight we did the things in the critical situations to win.
On UNLV's ability to run the football:
We matched Air Force in rushing and that is one of the things that I have been talking about all year. That is one of the keys to our winning and we had 204 positive yards rushing.
I felt like we could run the football.
On the play of Rocky Hinds:
I think it is very positive for him (Rocky Hinds). The number one thing is that Rocky has improved every week. I can say that regardless of the statistics. He has got better every week.
He did what we need him to do to win tonight. He didn't throw interceptions and we didn't have any catastrophic plays from him.
On slowing down Air Force's rushing attack:
I think this is the first time that we beat Air Force in time of possession.
They passed the ball pretty darn well, made some plays in the passing game but wanted to get them off schedule and our defense did that.
On the future of UNLV football:
I am already excited for next year. I am excited about the future because of what we have in our young group of players.
I think that there was a marked improvement in the strength of our program from last year to this year. We are a stronger football team competitively from last year to this year.
UNLV FRESHMAN WIDE RECEIVER Ryan Wolfe:
It has been way too long between wins. This is a good stepping stone for next year. All the receivers are coming back next year and it gives us some life in the offseason.
