LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball junior Willie Bowman grabbed the lead after the first day of the Rebel Challenge with 117 points, a series of strength of conditioning events that ends the fall semester for the team. Bowman's strong opening day was not enough to get his team high in the standings, as team Smell Ya has the lead with 22 total team points, while Bowman's squad, The Bokos, is at the bottom with just 10 points.
Bowman finished in the top five in two of the three events on Tuesday, winning the squat competition while also taking thirds in the wrist roller and bench press for reps events. Cameron Leck won the wrist roller event and the bench press for reps while Kyle Kretchmer claimed the curl title with 51 reps. Leck's two individual titles earned him 116 points, which was one point behind Bowman, and Calvin Beamon was this with 113 points.
Smell Ya racked up 22 points for a four-point lead over In Chalfant We Trush, which earned 18 points.
Wednesday the teams competed in four more events, and those results were being calculated at press time. Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Rebels as they continue the Rebel Challenge, as it gets underway each day at 4:30 p.m. (PST).
