Competition Heats Up In Rebel Challenge

LAS VEGAS - A trio of newcomers are in the hunt for the individual title after two days of events of UNLV baseball's 2006 Rebel Challenge, a series of strength and conditioning events that will conclude fall workouts.

Blake Amador, Rance Roundy and Tyler Coon are separated by three points following eight events in the competition. Amador has racked up 162 points, followed by Roundy's 161 and then Coon's 159. Calvin Beamon is fourth with 153 points and Rebel senior Keith Smith is fifth with 153.

In the team race Smell Ya, which is captained by Smith, has had a strong opening two days and leads with 39 points, eight ahead of second-place Slim Jims, which has 31. There is also a battle going on for third and fourth right now, with The Big Leaguers leading In Chalfant We Trust 29-28.

On Wednesday the teams competed in four events and today the teams will compete in the two-mile run and the military obstacle course. The final day of the event is Friday, with the teams competing in the stair challenge and `The Road To Ohama."

Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Rebels as they continue the Rebel Challenge, as it gets underway each day at 4:30 p.m. (PST).
