UNLV Postgame Quotes Nov. 4, 2006

UNLV Head Coach Mike Sanford

Overall on the game:

We are a better football team than the way that thing came out today. We were right there and legitimately had a chance and we should have won that game.

I am not even close to being satisfied. I am not happy, not one bit. I am very disappointed. But I will say that our defense played better but not good enough. Our offense has to play better.

On the play of the Rebels' defense:

Our defense improved today. I think it showed a lot of fight and a lot of improvement. We made some adjustments in our defense and we'll continue to do that.

Obviously the goal-line stand was really good.

On TCU's goal-line stand late in the game:

The bottom line is you can't have the ball first-and-goal inside the one and not score. That is a killer. That was a killer. We had just made a huge play and were in great position and you have to score there.

I am always looking at ways to get better and improve. Some of that is our players executing better in those situations. Some of that is we have got to run plays and call plays and do things that our guys will have a chance to be successful at.

We make progress and then take a step back and that kills us.

On the play of sophomore QB Rocky Hinds:

Other than that play (interception in the end zone), he did a good job of protecting the football today. That was something that was very important for us today against a good defense.

I think he made progress today. There were probably five or six plays that I would say were poor on his part. The other thing is that is a really good defense. That defense we played is the best defense in the conference.

On the strong rushing game but the poor passing attack:

We have got to be able to be successful in both areas to be the kind of offense that I want to be and that we need to be.
