Standings Tight In Rebel Challenge

Dec. 1, 2006

LAS VEGAS - Calvin Beamon has made his way to the top of the individual standings with one day remaining in the 2006 Rebel Challenge, a series of strength and conditioning events that wraps up the fall for UNLV baseball.

Beamon has two top-five finishes through eight events in the four-day, 10-event competition to score 184 points, two more than senior Keith Smith, who has 182 entering today's final two events. Rance Roundy is in third with 181 points while Anthony Hernandez and Adam Moser each have 175.

In the team race, Smith's strong performance has helped his team, Smell Ya, grab the lead with 44 points heading into the final day. Slim Jims is second with 43 points and The Big Leaguers is third with 34. Although he is leading, Beamon's success has not translated to his team, as Blue Steal is last with just 23 team points.

The final day of the event is Friday, with the teams competing in the stair challenge and `The Road To Ohama." Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Rebels as they wrap up the Rebel Challenge, with today's two events set to get underway at 4:30 p.m. (PST).
