IN THE BATTER'S BOX UNLV wraps up its season-opening, nine-game road trip with a three-game series at intrastate rival Nevada, Reno at Peccole Park. The opener of the series is Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (PST) while the final two games of the series are Saturday and Sunday, with both contests scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. This will be the first time this season that the Rebels will play a team not ranked in the top 15.
LAST TIME OUT UNLV had three games swept from it on the road against ranked Cal State Fullerton last weekend in California. The Rebels kept it close for six innings in the opener against the Titans but UNLV faltered in the seventh, giving up five runs to CSF in a 9-1 loss. In the second game of the series UNLV had the score tied at four but CSF blitzed the Rebels for seven runs in two innings as the Titans won 13-4. The Rebels got off to a good start, plating three runs in the opening frame but the lead would not hold up. In the final game between the two clubs the Rebels once again hung with the Titans, but UNLV could not muster enough offense in losing 3-1 Sunday afternoon. UNLV grabbed an early lead Sunday, scoring a run in the top of the second inning to go ahead 1-0. But CSF scored the next three runs to complete the sweep.

The Wolf Pack: Nevada, Reno picked up its first win of the season, upsetting then-No. 10 Arizona State 12-8 this past Sunday. The victory came on the heels of a five-game losing streak that saw the Wolf Pack get swept by Cal State Northridge and then dropped the first two games at the Surpise Arizona Tournament to Oregon State and Gonzaga. This will be the first series at home for UNR. Leading the Wolf Pack is Shawn Scobee, who is hitting .357 (5-14) in five games this year with one home run and five RBI. Terrence Walsh, Matt Bowman and Jordan Opdyke are all above the .300 mark as well. Travis Sutton has UNR's lone win and is 1-1 with a 9.00 ERA.
