The UNLV women's basketball team plays its last regular season home game on Thursday on Senior Night against 21st-ranked New Mexico at 7 pm in the Thomas & Mack Center.
With just two games left in the regular season, everything is up in the air in regards to seedings for next week's Mountain West Conference Tournament, as UNLV can finish anywhere between third and sixth. In fact, only one team so far knows its seed for sure, while this final week will see a total of five games involving teams from the top six playing each other, including three on Saturday. A win by UNLV over New Mexico would put them one step closer to a top-four finish.
Thursday's game is also the last regular season home game for five UNLV seniors (Sherry McCracklin, Sheena Moore, Nikki Hitchens, Brittney Thomas, Nejlah Clark), and the Lady Rebels will be looking for their 10th straight win in the Thomas & Mack Center over the past two years. Included in that streak is an upset win over New Mexico during the 2004-05 season, the nine-game win streak is the longest for UNLV in the TMC since winning 17 straight over a four year period between 1987-88 and 1990-91.
UNLV is facing a New Mexico team that has struggled on the road this year, as the Lobos are just 3-4 in league play, and had lost three straight before claiming a win at last place San Diego State on Saturday, 75-48. New Mexico has also lost six of its last seven games to UNLV in Las Vegas.
With eight points in the loss to Utah, senior guard Sheena Moore is now just 42 points away from becoming the ninth Lady Rebel to score 1,500 career points at UNLV. Moore is also just one assists away from 300, and only four players in UNLV history have reached both career marks.
