UNLV is playing in the postseason for the sixth straight year as the Lady Rebels take on Fresno State in the first round of the 2006 Postseason WNIT on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rebels are in the WNIT for the fourth straight year, and advanced to the 2004 championship game before falling at Creighton. The game will tipoff at 2 pm in Fresno, Calif., at the Save Mart Center.
The Lady Rebels are 119-42 all-time against teams currently in the Western Athletic Conference, and have not lost to a WAC team since a 71-66 loss at Hawaii on Dec. 15, 2002. This is the first meeting between UNLV and Fresno State since the Lady Rebels left the WAC for the Mountain West Conference after the 1999 season.
UNLV is 4-1 in WNIT First Round action, including last year's 61-48 loss at Arkansas in Fayetteville. The Lady Rebels are 2-4 all-time on the road in WNIT action, and 9-9 overall.
This is also the final postseason for two of the top scorers in UNLV history, and when both have scored double figures in the same game the Lady Rebels have been very hard to stop. Sheena Moore is currently ninth all-time with 1,518 points, while Sherry McCracklin is 13th with 1,225.
Formerly the MWC's top offense, UNLV now is at the top of the league in several defensive categories. The Lady Rebels are currently leading the conference in blocks (4.03 bpg), are second in steals (9.76 spg) and rebound margin (+4.6).
