LAS VEGAS - Southern California improved to 12-0 all-time vs. UNLV in men's tennis after posting a late-night 5-2 win at Marks Stadium Friday.
The 61st-ranked Rebels had their four-match winning streak snapped and fell to 11-4 while the 53rd-ranked Trojans broke their four-match losing skid to improve to 7-8.
Despite UNLV getting a doubles win on court two courtesy of Elliot Wronski and Brett Hunter, USC won the other two matches to earn the team point and take a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, the Rebels scored their points with impressive straight-set victories from freshman Wronski, who downed Adam Louks 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3, and sophomore Jonathan Hooper, who swept Garrett Snyder 6-3, 6-2 at the sixth position. One other match moved to a third set but Hunter lost 10-6 in a super-tiebreaker.
The Rebels now move into Mountain West Conference play by hosting Air Force on March 31 beginning at 1:30 p.m.
