CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 74th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team rebounded from a first-round loss to defeat the University of Texas-San Antonio 4-0 on Friday at the HEB College Invitational.
Despite playing again without their winningest player, Elliot Wronski because of sickness, the Rebels improved to 8-3 on the year while the Roadrunners fell to 2-6.
In doubles play, Joel Kielbowicz and David Campbell teamed up for an 8-6 win at the top spot while Romain Massaro and Wesley Burrows took their match 8-4 at No. 3 to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead.
Moving to singles, Massaro won 6-3, 6-3 at the second spot, Brett Hunter won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 and Burrows ended things with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court five as the other three matches were halted.
"It was good to see us bounce back from a disappointing loss in the first round," head coach Owen Hambrook said. "I was especially proud of Wes Burrows who moved up in the lineup and won in straight sets."
The Rebels will close out play in Corpus Christi with a Saturday morning match vs. Marquette.
