Rebels Look To Erupt On Islands

On Deck: UNLV hits the road for the first of three straight week(ends) away from the friendly confines of Eller Media Stadium. The Rebels will make their first trip to Hawaii since 1999 (when UNLV was in the Western Athletic Conference with the Rainbow Wahine). UH will host the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament (March 8-11). Joining the Rebels and Rainbow Wahine in Honolulu, will be: Longwood, Penn State, UC Santa Barbara and Detroit. The first three days of the tournament are predetermined, but the fourth day (Saturday) will consist of single-elimination play to crown a champion.

The Last Time Out: Last weekend, the Rebels hosted their third and final home tournament of the season, while tallying a 3-2 record in the UNLV Invitational. The Rebels defeated in-state rival Nevada, Reno 2-1 to open things up and followed that win with another over Portland State 8-7. UNLV faced #12/13 Arizona State and held a 2-0 lead up until the sixth, but gave up four runs in the final two innings to fall in the 4-2 contest. On Sunday, the Rebels had a split doubleheader between Virginia Tech and Southern Utah. Against the Hokies, the Rebels dropped a 2-1 contest, but had their chances in the late innings, but failed to plate the tying run. In the finale, versus SUU, the UNLV held on to a 5-4 contest.

Through 21: Through the first 21 games, the Rebels are hitting .250. Jaci Hull, who is expected back from a broken hand in a month, tops the teamwith a .400 batting average. Shannon Crisp follows with a .370 average and is trailed by Marissa Nichols' .333 BA.

Nichols leads the team with 22, while Crisp has 20.

The Rebels have four players with 10+ runs scored with Brittany Bolinger leading the way with 12.

Maggie Livreri tops the team with 13 RBI. Rosa Ordaz follows with 11.

On the base paths, Nichols is 12-for-15. Bolinger is 5-for-6.

Last Weekend, Offensively: In the UNLV Invitatinal, Kendall Fearn and Shannon Crisp broke the .500 barrier in the batter's box. Fearn hit .545 (6-for-11), while Crisp went 7-for-13 (.538).

Becky McDonald led the team with four RBI, with two coming off a two-run homer against Arizona State.

Brittany Boliger and Marissa Nichols each went 2-for-2 in the steal department.

Last Weekend, Pitching: In the UNLV Invitational, Kelly Griego notched one win and one save in 2.2 innings of work. She defeated Portland State and got her second save of the season against Southern Utah. Christie Robinson went 1-0, while making four appearances (three starts). Robinson struck out 15 in 15.2 innings of work.

Not Backing Down: While many teams are merely collecting wins against lesser opponents, UNLV isn't shying away from the toughest competition. The Rebels sit one game above .500 with an 11-10 record. Seven of those 10 losses have come to programs ranked 14th or higher. UNLV was in six of the seven contests as they lost by two runs to Oklahoma, Washington, Northwestern, Texas A&M and Arizona State. The NU, TAMU and ASU games came down to the oppositions' final at bat.
