On Deck: UNLV heads to California for the third of four regularly scheduled visits this season with a two-game set against San Diego State Saturday evening. The doubleheader against the Aztecs will be the only games played by the Rebels this week. Hitting the road to San Diego begins a stretch of eight consecutive games played on the road, with trips to Albuquerque, N.M., Fort Collins, Colo. and Fullerton, Calif., on the agenda.

The Opponent: San Diego State (21-8, 6-0 Mountain West): The Aztecs sit with a perfect 6-0 conference record heading into this weekend's doubleheader against UNLV. The six wins are two more than the squad won in the 2005 season (4-16). SDSU has won six straight and own a seven game winning streak earlier in the year.

~UNLV All-Time vs. SDSU: Series tied 30-30.

~Last meeting: May 12, 2005 - UNLV 4, SDSU 1 (MWC Tournament)

~Streaks: UNLV has won five straight (all in 2005).

The Last Time Out: The Rebels won two and lost two last week in what was the home opening weekend for UNLV in the Mountain West Conference. The two wins give the Rebels a 2-6 mark in league play. UNLV won the second game of both doubleheaders (Colorado State and New Mexico).

In game one, CSU opened the game with two runs in the first added two more in the third, before UNLV countered with two of its own in the inning. The Rams tacked on four more in the ffith to expand their lead to 8-2. The Rebels had their opportunities as the offense left seven runners stranded on the bases.

In game two, UNLV jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first. CSU scored two in the second to take the first of its two leads. The Rebels took the lead back with two runs in the third. The Rams plated their final two runs of the game for a 4-3 lead in the fourth. UNLVbrought two across in the bottom of the inning for a 5-4 final.

Against New Mexico, the Lobos received a great effort from Katie Gregg in the circle as she struck out seven and allowed only one hit in the seven-inning complete game. UNLV had its chance to score in the fourth, as the offense loaded the bases up, but a base running error ended the scoring threat. UNM countered with a solo home run in the fifth to score the only run of the 1-0 affair.

In game two, the Rebel bats awakened for seven hits en route to four runs. A quick score in the first pushed UNLV to a 1-0 lead. A two-run Kendall Fearn home run padded the lead to 3-0. UNM pulled within one run with a two-run home run of its own in the sixth. Becky McDonald, who gave up the UNM home run, helped herself, as she cranked a solo shot in the bottom of the inning.

On the weekend, Kendall Fearn, Brittany Freight and Lauren von Holst hit above the .300 mark. Fearn went 4-for-10 and hit a two-run home run and scored a run. Freight went 5-for-13 and collected an RBI and five runs. In a pinch-hitting role, von Holst collected a hit.

Shannon Crisp was nearly perfect in the circle, as she entered all four games in relief appeances. She notched a win and a save in 6.2 innings of work. She gave up only one hit.
