Kielbowicz Repeats As All-MWC

April 26, 2006

LAS VEGAS - Senior Joel Kielbowicz and sophomore David Campbell were UNLV's representatives on the 2006 All-Mountain West Conference tennis team as the league's awards were announced on Wednesday.

Kielbowicz, a graduate of Green Valley High School, won his second all-league nod in as many years after posting a 12-6 dual-match mark at No. 1 singles, including three victories over ranked opponents. The Henderson native also was tabbed All-MWC in doubles for the second straight year, this time with Campbell. The duo stands 10-10 overall playing at the top position in the lineup.

Kielbowicz will lead his team into the MWC championship tournament, which gets underway Thursday. The fifth-seeded Rebels (13-8) will face fourth-seeded Utah (14-9) in a first-round matchup slated to begin at 3 p.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

The MWC Player of the Year was Air Force's Shannon Buck while New Mexico rookie Johnny Parkes was tabbed MWC Freshman of the Year. The coach of the year was San Diego State's Gene Carswell.
