SAN DIEGO - The 48th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost only one set en route to a 7-0 shutout of Wyoming in a neutral-site league match played Friday at the Aztec Tennis Center on the campus of San Diego State.
The Lady Rebels improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Cowgirls fell to 8-11 and 0-4.
UNLV began the morning by winning three doubles matches for one team point. In singles, 16th-ranked Elena Gantcheva won her sixth straight, 6-0, 6-0 over Karolina Rowinski, to improve to 28-8 on the year.
Nikol Dimitrova won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, Sharon Marin breezed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Cindy Treber won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, Claire Smith outlasted her opponent in a super-tiebreaker 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 5 and Linda Tempelfelde won 6-2, 6-1 on court six.
"This was a solid win for us top to bottom," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "It also gives us a lot of momentum going into the weekend." UNLV will take on Air Force Saturday morning before closing out the trip vs. Colorado State on Sunday.
