SAN DIEGO - The 48th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team took its fourth straight league match on Saturday with a 6-1 neutral-site victory over Air Force at the Aztec Tennis Center on the campus of San Diego State.
The Lady Rebels improved to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain West Conference while the Falcons fell to 9-14 and 1-4.
UNLV began the morning by winning two of three doubles matches for one team point. When the No. 2 Lady Rebel team of Claire Smith and Nikol Dimitrova prevailed 8-2, it gave Smith her 47th career victory, which moved her into eighth place on the school's career list for doubles wins.
In singles, 16th-ranked Elena Gantcheva remained undefeated in league play by winning her seventh straight match, 6-2, 6-1 over Kat Bushey, to improve to 29-8 on the year.
Also winning for UNLV was Nikol Dimitrova, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 over Lauren Wilson; Cindy Treber, 6-2, 6-2 over Christine Abayan at No. 3; Claire Smith, 6-0, 6-1 over Erika Shortridge at No. 4; and Linda Tempelfelde, 6-4, 6-4 over Kelly Morgan on court five.
Treber's victory improved the senior to 62-39 all-time, which moved her into eighth place on the school's all-time singles wins list.
"Overall, this was a good performance because it is always tough playing Air Force," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "It was nice coming away with the win but now we have to prepare to face Colorado State."
UNLV will close out the weekend trip to Southern California by taking on the Rams Sunday morning.
