LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior Chad Miller was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, marking the sixth time this year that a Rebel has earned the award, the league announced today.
It is the first weekly award for Miller, a Phoenix, Ariz., native who went 6-for-12 (.500) from the plate with two home runs, 10 RBI and two runs scored in four games last week. He helped UNLV to a 2-2 record, including a league series win over Utah this past weekend in Salt Lake.
Miller started the week going 1-for-3 with an RBI single in UNLV's 6-4 loss at UC Riverside. After sitting out the opening game against Utah, Miller went 3-for-4 in the second, tallying a pair of RBI singles, a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run on the way to a career-high five RBI in the Rebels' 12-5 game two win. In the final game of the series against the Utes he went 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored, drilling his second homer in as many games in the 9-2 win.
Miller currently leads the Rebel team with 10 home runs and his 35 RBI are third on the squad.
San Diego State junior Justin Masterson, from Beaver Creek, Ohio, hurled a complete-game shutout in game one of the Aztecs' conference series vs. first-place TCU last Friday.
UNLV is back in action Tuesday night as the Rebels travel to play UC Irvine in a single game with the first pitch slated for 6:00 p.m. (PDT) in Irvine, Calif.
