IN THE BATTER'S BOX UNLV closes out its regular season home schedule with a three-game set against New Mexico that gets underway Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The first pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. (PDT) with Saturday's start time at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's at 1:00 p.m. Before the game Saturday UNLV will honor eight seniors playing their final season with the Rebels: Jabe Beard, Ryan Bird, Eric Brock, Mike Cruz, CJ Lang, Matt Luca, Matt Wagner and Albert Zerega Jr.

The Rebels: UNLV enters Friday's game against New Mexico with a 21-28 record, 6-10 in the MWC after the Rebels took two of three from Arizona last weekend. CJ Lang leads the Rebels in hitting (.342), hits (65), runs (49), stolen bases (13) and on-base percentage (.415) Chad Miller leads the team with 11 home runs while Keith Smith paces the team in RBI with 46. Chris Saddoris (5-7) leads the Rebel staff with 13 starts and 72.1 innings of work from the mound. Jabe Beard has made a team-high 21 appearances out of the Rebel bullpen and has recorded four saves, tops for UNLV. Kevin Skogley leads the Rebels with 50 strikeouts and 10 different UNLV pitchers have recorded at least one win.

The Lobos: New Mexico comes into this weekend's series having lost eight of its last night games, including a 15-4 loss to Texas Tech this past Wednesday. The Lobos bring one of the most potent offenses in the league into Earl E. Wilson Stadium, as seven UNM regulars are hitting above .300 and the team leads the league in most offensive categories. Chris Carlson leads UNM with 19 home runs and 65 RBI. Ian Hollick paces the team with a .376 batting average and Matt Foote leads the team with 23 stolen bases. Danny Ray Herrera leads the UNM pitching staff, posting a 9-0 record with a 2.26 ERA in 14 starts. He has struck out 87 in 111.1 innings of work.

THE SERIES

UNLV leads the all-time series with New Mexico 63-40 (.611) and the Rebels took five of six meetings last year between the two clubs. After the Lobos won the first meeting last year, the Rebels won the next five, including a three-game sweep at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT

UNLV took two of three from Arizona last weekend, winning the last two games after losing the opener in extra innings. In the first game the Rebels rallied to force extra innings but lost 7-6 to the Wildcats in 11 innings. In the second game UNLV 11 runs over the first three innings and went on to a 15-7 win. Braden Walker drove in a career-high five runs in the win. The Rebels capped the series win with a 16-12 win on Sunday. CJ Lang went 5-5 and scored three runs as six Rebels had at least two hits in the victory.
