Camp Stars: Nate Kenion

Aug. 18, 2006

FRIDAY'S CAMP STAR:

Nate Kenion, DB, 5-10, 200, SR-1L, Concord, CA, De La Salle HS, St. Mary's College

Nate Kenion's solid play in the UNLV secondary and strong leadership are just a couple of reasons he was voted by his teammates as a captain for this season and also why he is our Camp Star for Friday.

Kenion, a senior from Concord, Calif., transferred to the Rebels in 2004 from St. Mary's College after the school dropped football. He redshirted that season and then earned his first letter for the Rebels last year, appearing in seven games, including three starts. Kenion made 26 tackles, 10th on the team, and broke up one pass.

"It makes me feel that they (the team) respect me a lot by voting me team captain and it also puts more pressure on me to keep working hard," Kenion said. "I am very excited for this season. It is kind of double-sided, since this will be my last year of college football and that is a little sad, but I want to go out with a good year."

Kenion is majoring in university studies and he has also been a teacher to the younger players in the Rebel secondary this fall.

"He is a very respected player and an extremely hard worker," UNLV head coach Mike Sanford said. "He understands the defense and is a smart player both on the field and off of it."
