MONDAY'S CAMP STAR:
John Guice, CB, 5-9, 180, Sr.-1L, Atlanta, GA, Creekside HS, Grossmont College
John Guice is a shut-down corner who smothers opposing receivers and had a strong scrimmage this past Saturday but he couldn't keep us from naming him our camp star for Monday.
Guice is a senior from Atlanta who transferred to UNLV in 2005 after spending two seasons at Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif. Despite battling a nagging shoulder injury throughout most of last season, Guice made 55 tackles and broke up four passes in nine games, eight of them starts. The senior junior-college All-American is an honors candidate this year and is one of the leaders of the Rebel secondary.
"Camp is going really good, guys are going out there and making plays and flying to the ball," Guice said. "I think the secondary is one of our strengths and we try to set the tempo in practice each day. I am 100 percent healthy and ready to get going on the season."
Guice is majoring in university studies and the soft-spoken corner is a player who leads by example, Rebel head coach Mike Sanford says.
"He has had a really good camp and he was one of our champions in Saturday's scrimmage," Sanford said. "He played through an injury last year and right now he is playing much better and faster."
