LAS VEGAS - Players will report to the Lied Athletic Complex this weekend as part of the opening of UNLV football's 2006 preseason camp - the second under head coach Mike Sanford.

The first week of practices (August 7-11), which will take place on campus at Ernie Becker Sr. Football Fields at Bill "Wildcat" Morris Rebel Park, are open to the public.

On the first day of a five-day acclimation schedule, the Rebel newcomers will hit the field first on Monday from approximately 10-11:30 a.m. The veterans will then take their first from at 6-8 p.m.

The next two days will see the squad split into two with the Scarlet Team practicing from 8:45-10:45 a.m. and the Gray Team from 6-8 p.m.

The full squad will practice once on Thursday, Aug. 10 from 8:55-11:05 a.m. and then again in full pads for the first time on Friday, Aug. 11 at that same time. Practices from Aug. 12-23 will be held at an off-campus location.

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 24, and running through the season, all UNLV football practices are closed to the public. However, Rebel fans are invited out to Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 26 for a free sneak-peek at the team during a game dress rehearsal from 7-9 p.m. The Rebels open the 2006 season by hosting Idaho State at 7 p.m., which will mark the first of six home games this fall.
