LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team (9-3) notched its fifth 3-0 sweep of the season with Saturday night's win over UC Riverside (1-10). After having its six-match winning streak snapped on Friday, the Rebels notched its seventh win in eight matches tonight. The Rebels ran away with the match with scores of 30-20, 30-24, 30-25.
UNLV out hit UCR .202 to .156, while hitting only one more kill (42-to-41). The Rebels hit no worse than .143 in any game, with that coming in the third and .231 (game one) and .237 (game two) preceding it. The Highlanders stayed within the .100s with a .111 in game one, .150 in the second and .190 in the third.
The Rebels were paced offensively by seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage by Samantha Noland. Noland, also, racked up two blocks on the night. Maria Aladjova led the team with her eight kills, while Lauren Miramontes evened that total with a .583 hitting percentage.
Melody Nua and Kristin Koochi split assisting duties as they notched 20 and 12 helpers, respectively. Jada Walker led the team in digs with eight.
UCR received a match-high 15 kills from Janiece Manuel. Tonbi Youpele threw down nine kills, while Angie Mitchell had eight. Brittney Murrey had a match-high 33 assists. Ashley Halperin led the Highlanders in digs with nine.
UNLV heads back into Mountain West Conference play with matches against Utah and BYU this week. The Utes come to Las Vegas on Thursday the 21st at 7:00 p.m., while the Cougars follow on Saturday at the same time.
