Rebels Rise Early For Quick Win

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team (3-2) picked up its first 3-0 win of the season Saturday morning in the Baden Cougar Challenge against the UC Davis Aggies (1-4). The Rebels changed their fortunes from the effort put forth on Friday against the host Washington State Cougars to move their tournament record to 1-1 with one match left to play. UNLV defeated UC Davis by scores of 30-22, 33-31, 30-21.

UNLV out hit UC Davis .188 to .098 and held a 19-kill edge (58-to-39) in the match. The Rebels notched 19, 21 and 18 kills, respectively, in the match, while the Aggies only hit more than 12 once (17 in game two). UNLV hit no worse than .150, with a match-high .293 in game one. UC Davis' high came in game-two with a .130 hitting percentage, but game one (.054) and three (.086) were far below its high.

Maria Aladjova led the match in kills and digs with 16 and 25, respectively. Aladjova, also, hit a match-high .394 with only three errors in 33 attempts. Jessica Walters notched 11 kills, while Brittani Lumsden pitched in 10.

Melody Nua dished out 43 assists and 13 digs for the second double-double collected by a Rebel in the match.

The Aggies only had one player rack up double-digits in kills with Chantal Paschetta's 15. No other Aggie notched more than six kills. Paschetta earned a double-double in the match by collecting 20 digs, as well.

Next up for UNLV is its final match of the challenge at 5 p.m. against the Boise State Broncos.
