ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 5 UNLV men's golf team shot a tournament-low round of 3-under-par 285 on Saturday during the final round of play at the William H. Tucker Invitational to finish in sixth place at the Championship Course (par 72, 7,354 yards).
The Rebels (290-306-285--881, +17) finished at 17-over 881, seven shots behind team champion and host New Mexico (286-297-291--874, +10), who won with a 54-hole score of 10-over 874.
BYU (287-295-293--875, +11) finished second, one shot back at 11-over, while Pepperdine (294-294-289--877, +13) finished third, Texas A&M (294-294-290--878, +14) was fourth and New Mexico's silver squad (291-298-291--880, +16) rounded out the top five.
New Mexico's Charlie Beljan (67-71-72--210, -6) shot even-par 72 during the final round and hung on for a one-shot victory at 6-under 210. UNLV junior Jarred Texter (72-71-68--211, -5) shot 4-under 68 during the final round and finished in second at 5-under, one shot back.
Other Rebels were junior C.J. Gatto (72-78-72--222, +6) and sophomore Eddie Olson (73-77-72--222, +6), who both finished tied for 23rd at 6-over, senior Ryan Keeney (75-80-73--228, +12), who tied for 60th at 12-over and sophomore Seung-Su Han (73-80-77--230, +14), who tied for 72nd at 14-over.
The tournament's second-round was halted on Friday because of darkness and was completed Saturday morning prior to the final round of play.
UNLV's next action will be Oct. 2-4 at The Preview in Williamsburg, Va.
