On junior kicker Sergio Aguayo's knee injury:
"He will be out for sure for four weeks and could come back after that with a brace. If he comes back, he will only be a field goal kicker. This is what Sergio wants. He can rehab, get his MCL to heal - they heal on their own - and then brace it. Hopefully he can function as a kicker but that remains to be seen."
On freshman kicker Ben Jaekle's performance against Idaho State:
"The interesting thing about it is that he didn't do as well as I expected him to do but obviously there were extenuating circumstances. He was up in the stands, drinking lemonade, probably had a hot dog in his hand when I called him, so he didn't really get a chance to warm up."
On freshman kicker Ben Jaekle making his first start against Iowa State: "I think he is going to surprise a lot of people. I think he is a very good kicker."
On Iowa State's offense:
"They have nine of 11 starters coming back and they have a very good offense. They have probably the best receiver in the Big 12 in Todd Blythe and then they have the preseason All-Big 12 quarterback in Bret Meyer."
"With all due respect to (quarterback) Matt Gutierrez and Idaho State, this is the Big 12, a team that was in a bowl game last year and they are bigger, stronger and faster. It will be much tougher."
On playing Iowa State on the road:
"It will be a big challenge going into a Big 12 stadium, on the road, against a team that has gone to a bowl game five of the last six years. They are a very good football team and it will be a big-time atmosphere."
"We have to be able to play well when we are on the road. We are in a stretch where three of our next four games are on the road and the next two weeks we are going to extremes east and west and we have to be able to play well. That is part of college football."
On Iowa State's program:
"I have great respect for what Dan McCarney has done at Iowa State. He has improved that program and they have gone to bowl games in five of the past six years. He's done a great job there."
