Aguayo All-Mayday

Jan. 2, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior place-kicker Sergio Aguayo was one of 25 players selected to the 2006 All-Mayday Team, which was announced by ESPN analyst Mark May during the network's bowl coverage.

The All-Mayday Team is a squad comprised of college football's "Toughest of the Tough" and includes each position on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Aguayo, the preseason Mountain West Conference Special Teams Player of the Year, was injured during the first half of the Rebels' season-opening victory over Idaho State. The native of San Jacinto, Calif., tore both the MCL and ACL on his kicking leg while covering a kickoff return but decided to delay surgery until after the season. Aguayo instead opted to continue playing and, after rehabbing his MCL, wore a brace and missed just two games in 2006. For the season, Aguayo made eight of 16 field attempts, including tying his career-long with a 52-yarder vs. TCU, and 14 of 16 extra point attempts.
