LAS VEGAS - The 48th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team improved to 10-0 in January matches since 2002 with a 7-0 whitewash of Weber State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Lady Rebels (3-0) lost only one set to the Wildcats (0-3), including taking all three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead.
In singles, All-American Elena Gantcheva won her fourth straight, 6-0, 6-2 over Gabi Venditto at the top spot. Also winning in straight sets for the Lady Rebels were Nikol Dimitrova at No. 2, Claire Smith at No. 3, Linda Tempelfelde at No. 4 and Alisa Razina at No. 5. Senior Mery Constanti rallied on the sixth court to win 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) in a super-tiebreaker.
"We're off to another good start after the weekend," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "We saw some things we did well and some areas in which we have to improve, but the team is starting to come together for the spring season."
UNLV is off until hosting UC Riverside on Feb. 9.
