WOMEN (5-4, 4-3 MWC) Preview: UNLV is coming off a great weekend in which they swept the Gauchos of UCSB and Rams of Colorado State. With the MWC Championships coming up soon, each team is looking to peak near the end of the month. Swimming well for the Rebels recently has been Katie Wronn and Lani Seaman, along with with Kim Bonney and Bailey Kuestermeyer. Wronn and Seaman were double winners a week ago, while Bonney and Bailey each took home one event. Also, look for Marva Harpak to step up her swimming. Harpak has been sick the past couple meets, and coaches expect the freshman freestyler to bounce back the next couple of weeks.
Scouting The Lobos: New Mexico enters Saturday's meet with 2-4 record, recently defeating in-state rival New Mexico State 159-127. Ashley Grisdale leads the Lobos, ranking first in the conference in the 200 fly. Grisdale is also eighth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 400 IM. Tori Clarridge is a strong force in the 100 back, while Jenna Syverson and Andrea Zarins have been swimming great of late. Zarins won the 200 breast and 400 IM in her last time out. On the boards for the Lobos is Carrie Quinn, who is ranked first in the conference in the one-meter event and fifth in the three-meter dive.
MEN (5-2/4-1 MWC) Preview: The Rebel men are off until the MWC Championships at the end of February, where the 2007 men's swimming conference champion will be crowned. UNLV has won the last two conference championships, becoming only the second conference team to win a title, with BYU winning the first five Mountain West crowns.
Looking Ahead: The UNLV divers will travel to Arizona State on Feb. 10 for the ASU Diving Invite. The Rebel swimmers are back in action at the end of the month when they travel to the Mountain West Conference Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla.
