LAS VEGAS - The No. 16 UNLV men's golf team blew past the competition and was the only team to break 280 for the tournament as it shot an 8-under-par 276 during the final round on Sunday at the Shoot-out at Angel Park, which was played at Angel Park Golf Club (par 71, 6,722 yards) in Las Vegas.
The Rebels finished the tournament at 12-under 840, defeating the field by 17 shots, as they were the only team to shoot under par at the event. Cal State Northridge finished second at 5-over after shooting a 1-over during the final round. UNLV's "B" team, which was made up of individual competitors from the Rebel squad, finished third at 17-over, while Southern Utah was fourth at 18-over and San Jose State rounded out the top five at 19-over.
UNLV junior Seung-Su Han led the Rebels with a second-place finish individually at 5-under 208 after a final-round 1-under 70. Han finished one shot back of individual medalist Brandon Crick from Gonzaga. Crick shot 6-under 207 for the tournament after posting a second-round score of 5-under 66 and a final-round tally of 4-under 67.
Other players counting towards UNLV's first place team were Jarred Texter, who shot a final-round 1-under 70 and tied for third at 2-under 211, Ji Moon (70, 212; 6th), Brett Kanda (66, 213; T7th) and Eddie Olson (71, 214; T10th). UNLV's "B" squad was made with scores from Matt Kinsinger (71, 217; T20th), C.J. Gatto (66, 217; T20th), Brandon Loska (70, 217; T20th) and Johnny Pinjuv (75, 229; T70th), while Kevin Carrigan did not finish the final round.
Because of unforeseen circumstances, the results were not made available until Monday. UNLV will be back in action, Oct. 8-9, at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
