LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball played three intra-squad scrimmages at Earl E. Wilson Stadium as Fall Camp got underway for head coach Buddy Gouldsmith and his Rebels.
In the first game Jesse Wight hit a double and scored twice and Kyle Kretchmer hit a two-run home run to lead their team to an 8-4 win in a four-inning game this past Saturday morning. Willie Bowman added an RBI triple in the victory. Stephen Singer and Marc Baca pitched for Team A in the win, and the two allowed four hits.
Over the weekend Drew Beuerlein had four singles at the plate to lead the Rebels and on the mound Justin Baca, the younger brother of Marc, gave up three hits and one earned run to go with two strike outs in the nine batters he faced.
The team will practice on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday each week, with the final workout taking place on Nov. 18, and the Rebels will also hold intra-squad scrimmages on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Weekday practices begin at 1:30 p.m. (PDT) with scrimmages set to start at about 3:30 p.m. On the weekends practices begin at 10:00 a.m. with scrimmages getting underway at about 11:30 a.m. All scrimmages and practices are open to the public.
Fall Camp will culminate with the Scarlet-Gray World Series, which will begin Nov. 13 and run through the Nov. 18.
