Bell Ringing Up Early Honors

Oct. 18, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior linebacker Beau Bell (Tustin, CA/Tustin HS) has been named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Midseason by College Football News.

Bell also topped CFN's list of the 10 best Mountain West players in the first half of the season. The leading candidate for MWC Defensive Player of the Year honors, he leads the league with 74 total tackles, which ranks 23rd in the nation.

Last week Bell was named a midseason third team All-American by Phil Steele's. He then went out and turned in one of the best games of his career by posting a season-high 13 tackles, forcing his league-leading fourth fumble and grabbing his first two interceptions. For his efforts, Bell was named MWC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career.

Also making the CFN midseason honors list was starting running back Frank "The Tank" Summers (Oakland, CA/Skyline HS/Laney College). The JC transfer was listed as turning in the league's best performance so far with his 190 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the Rebels' 27-0 victory over Utah on Sept. 22.

UNLV hosts Colorado State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
